NFL analyst claims forcing Dan Snyder to sell Commanders isn’t a punishment: “You are never gonna be able to bring these rich people to their knees unless you throw them in jail”
Dan Snyder has been in hot water for quite a while over his conduct as owner of the Washington Commanders.
Legions of fans have called for the owner to be forced to sell the team over the years. They want him to suffer the closest thing possible to being fired.
However, speaking on "The Right Time with Bomani Jones," NFL analyst Bomani Jones claimed that forcing him to sell the team would not be punishing him enough. He also claimed that Dan Snyder is incapable of change and would rather fight to avoid it than adapt himself.
Here's how Jones put it:
"It's kind of like when people start talking about, 'Hey, man, this coal thing, the coal, it's over, man. Y'all need to get in here and start learning how to code.'
"But they respond with, 'This is what we do. This is who we are.' Dan Snyder is the owner of the Commanders. That's who he is when he walks into all these rooms."
He went on to claim that some believe that Snyder would still view selling the team as a punishment, though he'd be making more than $4 billion in doing so:
"That's the reason why when you say his name, you don't have to explain who he is. His identity is firm in that. The other thing is, it's not like he'd be selling high.
"Yes, in theory, he'll be selling high because he paid like $800 million for the team and now [it] is worth over $5 billion but he would be selling in shame."
Jones also claimed that while selling the Commanders would hurt, it wouldn't bring Dan Snyder down:
"He would be selling because they told him to sell and he doesn't want to sell. Like, that was the thing with Donald Sterling where they made him sell the team.
"They were like, 'Oh, what a punishment. He gets these billions of dollars, huge punishment for that man because they don't sell anything.'"
Lastly, he claimed that the only way to truly punish Snyder would be to put him in jail, which he also claimed was not likely to happen:
"You are never gonna be able to bring these rich people to their knees unless you throw them in jail. That's not going to happen."
How are Dan Snyder's Washington Commanders doing in 2022?
Dan Snyder's team just wrapped up a primetime win over the Chicago Bears after surviving a last-second drive that ended close to their one-yard line.
While that would be enough to pump up most head coaches, the Commanders' lead tactician Ron Rivera stormed out of the post-game press conference. His departure was after an intense tirade in response to a question about Snyder forcing Carson Wentz into the building.
Dan Snyder's team is currently 2-4 and trail the rest of the division by two games. Washington will hope to build some momentum with a win over next week's opponent, the Green Bay Packers.
The game will be played on October 23 at 1:00 PM EST. Will the Commanders look refreshed and rejuvenated after the mini-bye?
