NFL analyst claims Patrick Mahomes cares more about a different team than Chiefs’ Super Bowl win

Last week during Game 4 of the ALDS, Patrick Mahomes was in attendace at Kauffman Stadium to watch the Kansas City Royals take on the New York Yankees. When the Royals tied the game, the quarterback couldn't contain his excitement and was seen jumping around the box. His former Chiefs teammate, Gehrig Dieter, who is a diehard Yankee fan was in the box as well.

Dieter was a guest on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" on Friday morning and said that Mahomes likes to trash talk a lot about baseball. Kyle Brandt told Deiter that he was shocked how a calm player like Mahomes is on the football field was so excited about the Royals scoring one run.

Dieter then was seen at Yankee Stadium on Monday evening alongside Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift for Game 1 of the ALCS. A busy few weeks for the former Chiefs player who is still close to his former teammates.

The former NFL wide receiver played five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before announcing his retirement in June 2022.

How much did Patrick Mahomes invest in the Kansas City Royals?

Patrick Mahomes may be on the verge of creating a Hall of Fame career in the NFL, but baseball was nearly his career path until high school. The three-time Super Bowl winner is a minority owner of the Kansas City Royals which allows him to stay connected to the sport.

His journey into MLB ownership began in 2020, shortly after he signed a ten-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs which was worth $500 million. He bought a 1% stake into the Royals which cost an estimated $10 million.

Patrick Mahomes, who was 24-years-old at the time of his investment, became the youngest owner in Major League Baseball.

Besides the Kansas City Royals, Mahomes also has minority stakes in Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City, the NWSL's Kansas City Current which is co-owned by his wife Brittany Mahomes, as well as Alpine Racing which races in Formula One. Patrick Mahomes' sports investments also expanded to pickleball as he became part of an ownership group in an up-and-coming professional pickleball team.

At just 29-years-old, the Super Bowl winning quarterback has created quite the portfolio when it comes to professional sports ownership.
