"Worst quarterback in football" - NFL analyst defends Mike Purcell's outlash at Russell Wilson as Broncos hit rock-bottom
During the loss to the Carolina Panthers, Russell Wilson was seen being yelled at by his teammate Mike Purcell. In response, Wilson stood still and didn't say anything. Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett was also beside the pair, but he didn't say anything either.
Frustration has been growing in Denver, and Purcell obviously reached the boiling point. Against the Panthers, the Broncos were able to score just 10 points as their offense continued to struggle.
Nick Wright backed the actions of Mike Purcell and claimed Russell Wilson deserved the treatment. Here's what he said on First Things First:
"I think it was a terrible look, that when Purcell yelled at Russ, Russ, are you wanting to fire back? Yes, I want him to yell back. I don't want him to always be like in character. I want him to fire back. And that is one of the many reasons the Broncos are in the worst position of any team in the league moving forward."
Wright continued:
"So how bad is Russell Wilson been? When I say he's been the worst quarterback in football, it's because he's been the worst quarterback in football that has not been benched or been injured. They are the lowest-scoring team in the league. Greg, the defense continues to be quite good."
He added:
"This is a team Greg, that did not have back-to-back losing seasons for 47 years, from 1971 until six years ago, and now they've had six in a row, and they don't own their own picks. They're in a bad cap situation, and they have a broken quarterback. So I think it's the worst situation of any team in the league."
With the loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, the Denver Broncos are now 3-8. They are most certainly out of playoff contention and are likely to contribute to the Seattle Seahawks having a top-five draft pick for next year.
Nathaniel Hackett is under a lot of pressure and it is very unlikely that we will see him return as the Broncos' head coach next season.
Russell Wilson's shocking 2022 NFL season
Many were optimistic about the Denver Broncos heading into this season with Russell Wilson. They believed the team was a superstar quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender.
That certainly did not happen as the Broncos have had a poor season and Wilson has been very disappointing. So far this season, Wilson has a passer rating of 82.3 with 2,369 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions.
The team traded away a lot of draft capital to acquire Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks, but the Broncos have gone in the opposite direction. If Russell Wilson doesn't improve next season, the Broncos will be in a lot of trouble in the coming years.
