NFL analyst encourages Micah Parsons to join CeeDee Lamb’s holdout as three-headed negotiation gets testy in Dallas
Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott are pending new extensions and have continued their duties. However, the pass rusher should cease playing nice. At least, that is what NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky indicated on Wednesday morning's edition of Get Up.
"[00:00:35] Micah Parsons shouldn't step on the field with that new contract," Dan Orlovsky said. "Which one of the big three in Dallas is going to play the hard game? ... Is it going to be him, Dak Prescott, or CeeDee Lamb? It's going to be hard to pay all three of those guys what they're worth in my opinion."
CeeDee Lamb is already in the process of a holdout. The wide receiver has been missing at OTAs to pressure Jerry Jones to deliver a new contract. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons linger as two other players hungry for extensions.
Instead, the Cowboys have hardly moved this offseason on any front. Outside of using their draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, there have not been any massive changes or commitments made for the roster.
That includes addressing Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons' futures, adding new stars via free agency or trade and preparing the team for the future.
Does Micah Parsons or CeeDee Lamb take priority for Jerry Jones?
In one way or another, Jerry Jones likely has decided his position with Dak Prescott. However, signing Dak Prescott to a massive new extension would make it tough for the Cowboys to decide which star to address first this offseason.
As it stands, a look at both players' contracts proves which player takes priority this offseason.
CeeDee Lamb takes priority in the 2024 offseason for one simple reason: time. The wide receiver will enter his fifth and final season on his contract. He already will be costing the team around $12 million more in 2024 than in 2023.
As such, either way, the Dallas Cowboys might as well extend the receiver to the tune of a salary in line with what they already will be forced to hand out. Regardless of how it is decided, Parsons has much more time than Lamb left on his deal.
According to Spotrac, if Lamb doesn't sign a new deal this season, he will be a free agent in March. Meanwhile, Parsons has until March of 2026 to receive a new deal. As such, when it comes to prioritization, Lamb gets the nod. However, it does not mean that Parsons automatically will be procrastinated for another season.
If one deal goes well and wraps quickly, there is a chance that Parsons could also be addressed. However, will Jerry Jones feel the same way?
