NFL analyst explains “s**t” decision made by Aaron Rodgers’ Jets in potential final Stafford-Rodgers matchup

Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford might never play against each other again. With the two quarterbacks in different conferences and Rodgers potentially staring down the end of his career before he plays another cross-conference game against the LA Rams, Sunday's matchup between them might have been it.

The final taste of the rivalry was a sour one for NFL analyst Chris Simms. Speaking on Monday's edition of "Pro Football Talk," the analyst slammed the New York Jets for electing to go for a fourth-down conversion instead of playing it safe.

"OK, here's one more stupid call by the Jets: 16-9 on their own 47. It's fourth and four. All right. And there are eight minutes left. They haven't done s**t on offense," Simms said (4:44). "Punt the ball down there and back them up. Yeah, and see if you can get the ball at midfield and then maybe score.
"Instead, they go for it like a bunch of meatheads. They don't get it and they hadn't got it really all day. And the Rams go ahead and get the field goal, then put the game away and make it a 10-point game. Just annoying to see how the Jets managed the game yesterday."

The Jets lost the contest against the Rams by a final score of 19-9 to drop to 4-11, inching them one step closer to the top of the NFL draft picking order in 2025.

The former Green Bay Packers quarterback's decision-making system is not exactly par for the course. Most make their decisions with research and a little bit of soul-seeking. At the very least, they keep the lights on. Rodgers, however, has a history of isolating in the darkness in the offseason.

He did so in 2023 before joining the New York Jets. Now, with his Jets career potentially on life support, Davante Adams' quarterback has hinted at doing the same once again.

According to a December 18 report by "Pro Football Talk," Rodgers told reporters that he was going to "take some time away."

“I’m gonna take some time after the year unless I get released right away," he said. "But I’ll still take some time, whether or not I wanna play. But I’ll take some time, get away from it, either way.”

Of course, Aaron Rodgers didn't come out and announce that he would be doing a darkness retreat, but he did at least hint at some level of isolation, which could include that.

Will Aaron Rodgers go all-in on isolating from the world once again?
