NFL analyst gives reality check to Jets as Aaron Rodgers & Co. suffer worst defeat of 2024: "This is what rock bottom looks"

The New York Jets' quest to salvage their season suffered another setback on Sunday, as they suffered a 31-6 blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium and dropped to 3-6.

Aaron Rodgers and the offense mustered only 207 yards of offense and were shut out in the second half, while the Jets defense gave up 407 yards to Kyler Murray and the Cardinals.

This was a microcosm of the Jets' disastrous campaign, which Trey Wingo believes is all but over. The analyst gave a damning assessment of New York's dwindling season on X, writing:

"The Jets are done. Season is over and now they are facing the harsh reality of what happens going forward: close to 30 players on expiring contracts.. A soon-to-be 41-year-old QB who looks it..a coaching staff that will probably be gone. This is what rock bottom looks [like]."

Jets' playoff odds: Is New York's season over?

According to the New York Times' playoff simulator, the Jets had a 22% chance of making it to playoffs before kickoff against the Cardinals. Had they won the game, their odds would've improved marginally to 26%.

However, the loss had a disastrous effect on their chances. Per the simulator, New York now has only a 14% chance of playing in the postseason.

They'd have to run the table and finish 10-7, which could net them a wildcard spot. However, it seems unlikely that the Jets would be able to win seven games on the trot. Their offense is averaging a dismal 17.7 points per game, which ranks 26th in the league.

Their defense, which was giving up 20.3 points on average, had kept their season alive, but the wheels seemingly came off on Sunday, as interim head coach and defensive play caller Jeff Ulbrich watched on helpless as his unit gave up 31 points in three quarters to the Cardinals.

The Jets came into this season full of hope, expecting a playoff appearance as the bare minimum. But given the circumstances, they'll likely focus their attention on creating a shortlist of coaches around the league that they'd want to interview for their soon-to-be vacant head coaching role and chart a plan of action for the 2025 NFL draft soon and free agency, which over half their current roster will hit.
