NFL analyst kicks Daniel Jones’ Giants out of NFC East race with Cowboys, Eagles
One of the Dallas Cowboys' division neighbors, Daniel Jones, is heading into a do-or-die season with the New York Giants. Doubts have followed him for most of his career and another analyst has added one to the pile.
On Tuesday's edition of "Get Up," NFL analyst Jeff Darlington explained where he expected the Giants to finish in the division.
"Last," Darlington said. "We know we know more about Daniel Jones right now than we do say, about Jayden Daniels in Washington, where I think that the mystery brings more optimism than the knowledge of what the Giants have right now. So I think they're in a prove-it mode." [00:07:00][23.2] Get up
Ever since Jones was drafted, fans and analysts have set low expectations. In every year since his addition to the franchise, their quarterback has struggled to deliver, except arguably in 2022, when his team won a playoff game.
Jones has yet to throw for more than 30 touchdowns in a single NFL season and hasn't thrown for 20 touchdowns since the 2019 season. With Saquon Barkley gone and rookie receiver Malik Nabers added in the first round, the pressure appears to be placed squarely on Jones to deliver in 2024. Thus far, it appears Jeff Darlington isn't sold.
Cowboys and Eagles gear up for rematch of dramatic 2023 NFC East race
If Daniel Jones and the New York Giants are not in contention, as Darlington said, the Commanders remain the only team that could elbow their way into the conversation. However, over the last several decades, that hasn't been the case. Also, with a rookie quarterback at the helm, not many are expecting a complete turnaround in 2024.
As such, the Cowboys and Eagles are set for another race between Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts. Last year, the race was a memorable one. The Eagles took an early lead in the race with a well-over .500 record. Meanwhile, Dallas stumbled early and found themselves chasing.
In December, the Eagles hit a brick wall, losing five of their last six games. Meanwhile, the Cowboys kept pace. Despite chasing for the entire season, Dallas regained first place in the division at the 11th hour.
Both teams made the playoffs, but the Philadelphia Eagles were forced to play on the road in a wild-card matchup. Meanwhile, the Cowboys played in their stadium.
With things reset back to zero, will the Cowboys manage to hold off the Eagles once again? Let us know in the comments section.
