NFL analyst labels Patrick Mahomes a demonic “MJ” as third consecutive Super Bowl chase begins

Patrick Mahomes has gotten plenty of praise over the course of his 20s. However, comparing him to a demonic Michael Jordan might have raised the bar for compliments. Speaking on "Get Up," NFL analyst Kimberley A. Martin declared Patrick Mahomes to be "a demon." Here's how she put it:

Kimberly A. Martin: "[00:04:52] Patrick Mahomes is a demon. If you are playing right now, that man is a certified demon because you can't seem to get past him. ... It seems like Mahomes is the MJ right now where you have great quarterbacks, good teams that just can't get past them," she said. [00:05:12][19.6] Get Up

Patrick Mahomes has reached four Super Bowls since 2018 and won three of them. Two of his wins have come against the San Francisco 49ers. The other came against the Philadelphia Eagles. Mahomes sits in the 50-touchdown club, having thrown for as many touchdowns in a single season as Tom Brady. He also came close to passing Peyton Manning's 55-touchdown record from 2012.

However, Mahomes hasn't been invincible. He is as perfect as a quarterback can get, but Joe Burrow and Tom Brady have bragging rights as the only quarterbacks to send Mahomes home in the playoffs.

Tom Brady defeated Mahomes in an AFC Championship game and a Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Burrow defeated Mahomes in an AFC Championship game. Aside from those three games, Mahomes has been perfect in the playoffs.

Heading into the 2024 season, analysts, pundits and fans are comparing Mahomes' legacy to Tom Brady. However, before he can match Brady's legacy, he has a clearer shot to match Michael Jordan.

Jordan won six championships in his NBA career, including two three-peats. If Mahomes could win a third consecutive Super Bowl, he would be halfway toward matching Jordan's dual three-peats, per Britannica. Of course, at that point, Mahomes could be more interested in chasing the first four-peat in NFL history as well.

If he were to pull that off, some fans would claim him to be the most accomplished quarterback in NFL history, almost regardless of what he did for the remainder of his years in the league. He would also get within two championships of Brady and with a four-peat sprinkled in, some may calculate him to be a step above.

The Buffalo Bills reached four consecutive Super Bowls in the 1990s but lost all four games. Could Mahomes eventually flip that record on its head?
