NFL analyst names Jahan Dotson as 'sneaky big' fantasy football option
Jahan Dotson might be the biggest trade news of the post-preseason window before the regular season begins. One NFL analyst has urged fantasy managers to cash in on the receiver before seeing a single snap of him in the new system.
Speaking on an August 28 edition of 'Get Up', NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum called the addition 'sneaky big' for the Eagles.
"[This is, to] quote the great Mike Greenberg, 'sneaky big news.' They went out and got Jahan Dotson. Jahan Dotson was a first-round pick and he will get their worst the opposing team's worst corner," Tannenbaum said [10:21].
"So Dallas Goedert Saquon Barkley, or Jahan Dotson. Take that player in fantasy, because we know that on the outside, DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown, they're going to be doubled," he added.
Of course, this assumes that Jalen Hurts will be open to running through two reads before getting to Dotson repeatedly. It also assumes his offensive line will be able to routinely give him time to get to his second read.
Plus, it could fall on Nick Sirianni to call more plays that optimize the third read, which could be a difficult task. Additionally, he will need to be willing to call those plays as well.
NFL insider explains why Jahan Dotson was traded
Dotson was traded away from Jayden Daniels' Commanders to Jalen Hurts' Eagles in a rare intradivisional trade. With Dotson only heading into his third season, many are wondering why the Commanders were willing to part ways.
According to Good Morning Football's Kyle Brandt, there could be two key reasons. According to comments made by Brandt on an August 23 edition of 'Good Morning Football', a holdout was going on amid a disappointing level of production.
"I think it's safe to say he's been underwhelming through the first couple of years. Everything I heard coming out of Commanders camp was that he was trying to find a way to fit in as the number two receiver, and by fit in, he maybe was not working out," Brandt said [00:01:40][00:01:52][12.6] GMFB.
Dotson has earned about 520 yards in each of his first two seasons with the Washington Commanders. As a first-round pick, the wide receiver didn't live up to expectations with the team and thus found himself on a path that led him to the Eagles.
