NFL analyst opens door to putting Justin Herbert on same lavel as AFC’s fantastic four
Justin Herbert has had bright moments in his five-year NFL career. However, defeating the Denver Broncos used to not be seen as one. The LA Chargers quarterback managed to pull out a win in a seemingly desperate circumstance in primetime with the entire country watching on Thursday.
One NFL analyst claimed that Herbert was on a similar level as Patrick Mahomes or at least on track to join the list of most respected QBs in the AFC.
"There are four quarterbacks in the AFC, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes," FOX's Peter Schrager said (01:44) on Friday, via 'Good Morning Football.' "Justin Herbert last night slammed on that door and said, 'Let me in, fellas.' I am very curious to see how the rest of the season and the postseason plays out. Herbert was awesome last night."
Herbert threw for two touchdowns and one interception, racking up 284 passing yards and eight rushes for 28 yards, including multiple critical first downs.
The Broncos took a 21-13 lead into halftime but lost momentum in the second half, losing 34-27. Overall, the offense hit a wall and the defense opened theirs. The Chargers are now the sixth seed and Denver slipped to seventh.
Exploring how Justin Herbert can clinch the playoffs after win over Broncos
Justin Herbert's Chargers improved to 9-6 and second in the AFC West. However, they did not clinch the playoffs with a win like Denver would have if they had won.
For that to happen this weekend, the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins both need to lose their matchups.
The Colts will face the Tennessee Titans while the Miami Dolphins will clash against the San Francisco 49ers. Indianapolis plays first in the morning window on Sunday while the Dolphins will be in action in the middle window, per ESPN.
If either team stays alive, LA won't be able to clinch a postseason spot until Week 17.
If the Chargers remain in play, they will need to take care of business against the New England Patriots to seal a postseason berth. Their fans have every reason to root for the Titans and the 49ers this weekend. If either team wins, the LA Chargers would need to lose to the Patriots to keep themselves out of the postseason.
Will Justin Herbert slam the door shut himself?
