NFL analyst points out one bright side to BJ Thompson’s scary cardiac arrest

BJ Thompson's cardiac arrest stole headlines on Thursday as the Chiefs defensive end seized up during a meeting, leading to a cancellation of practice. While the situation is far from how the team and fans had hoped OTAs would have gone, there is one silver lining.

Speaking on "Pro Football Talk," NFL analyst Charean Williams noted that it was lucky that if there was going to be a cardiac arrest, having it at the team facility was better than most places.

Charean Williams: "[00:07:24] There's worse places to have cardiac arrest than on the field during a game or at the team facility where there are athletic trainers and doctors sometimes there. I don't know if there were doctors there at that particular time. But they do have great medical care there. [00:07:44]." [20.2] PFT

Thompson's cardiac event has drawn many comparisons to Damar Hamlin's situation. Hamlin suffered a cardiac event during a Monday Night Football game, leading to its cancellation. The Buffalo Bills safety made seemingly a complete recovery and has returned to the gridiron since. One can only hope that Thompson can make a similar recovery.

The Kansas City Chiefs won it all for a second consecutive year in February. However, since then, there has been an overwhelmingly lopsided turn of events for the team.

Since winning the Super Bowl, BJ Thompson's team has lost a vote to fund a stadium renovation. They also faced a mass shooting event at the end of the team's victory parade. Rashee Rice continues to fight felony accusations as well.

Of course, it hasn't been all bad news for the Chiefs. Travis Kelce graduated college and continues to draw positive attention to his relationship to Taylor Swift. By winning the Super Bowl, Kelce also added to his Super Bowl total over brotherly rival Jason Kelce.

Additionally, BJ Thompson's team visited the White House, a rare accomplishment for any football team. Patrick Mahomes has managed to remain healthy and focused on the 2024 season, and as long as he is available and focused, not many will be quick to write off the Chiefs.

Will the Kansas City Chiefs return to business as usual following their unconventional offseason?
