NFL analyst pressures Cowboys to stop being political about Odell Beckham Jr. recruitment
Odell Beckham Jr. is the most coveted free agent now that the NFL trade deadline has passed. Now, teams are vying for the services of the wide receiver as he looks to sign with a contender. One such team is the Dallas Cowboys. On the ESPN show NFL Live, analyst and former Cowboys player Marcus Spears urged the franchise to pursue the star wideout. Here's what Spears said:
"I get it that you got to play politics and talk about, ‘well, it's OBJ and you gotta do what's best for [you].’ No, do what's best for us, do what's best for the Cowboys, OBJ, and sign on."
He continued:
"I know you want some money, Jerry got some money. I know you want to be in a big market. What bigger market could you ask for?"
Spears added:
"And I know you want to play with a team that got a chance to win a Super Bowl with a good quarterback. It's all there, bro. Come on, now. Quit with the politics. We need OBJ."
Odell Beckham Jr. spent six games with the Cleveland Browns last season before signing with the Los Angeles Rams after being cut by the Browns. The former LSU Tigers star played eight games with the Rams in the 2021 season. He started in Super Bowl 56 for the Rams versus the Cincinnati Bengals. In the second quarter of the game, Beckham Jr. suffered a torn ACL.
The 30-year-old is close to recovering from the devastating injury and is looking to play his ninth season. Could we see him in a Cowboys uniform in this campaign?
Dallas Cowboys stars on Odell Beckham Jr. possibly joining the team
For the Dallas Cowboys, two of their biggest stars recently spoke on the possible addition of OBJ to the team. Cowboys All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott commented that the talented receiver would be a welcome addition to their roster:
"We know what type of player Odell is. We know how explosive he can be and what he could bring to this offense. It would be great to get him down here in Dallas. … He would definitely fit in this locker room. We want OBJ.”
Last season's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, linebacker Micah Parsons shares Elliott's sentiments:
“I think he’s a great player. He’s a guy you want on your team. I think he’s a great dude. I think he could add good value to the team and help us do what we want to do."
The Cowboys currently have CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Noah Brown, and Jalen Tolbert as the main receivers on their roster. Adding a talent like Beckham Jr. would give the team another weapon for quarterback Dak Prescott.
Let's see if Jerry Jones goes after the 2014 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year to help the Cowboys, who sit with a 6-2 record this season.
