NFL analyst puts New Orleans Saints star Alvin Kamara on trade block as early-season Super Bowl talk goes down in flames

NBC Sports analyst Mike Florio believes that Alvin Kamara should be traded before his salary goes up and the New Orleans Saints find themselves in a more complex position. Following a humbling 33-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday, the Saints' season appears to be in serious jeopardy after they dropped to 2-5.

This team entered this season with Super Bowl expectations and now they're almost at the same level as the Carolina Panthers. With their current form, some say they're better off parting with some of their stars. Florio shared his take on Pro Football Talk:

"Alvin Kamara is in the last year of his contract with the Saints. He's an asset that they can use to get draft pick or two to reload for the future if he's not going to be there next year under his current contract. Now you can still work out a revised contract, but there's no way they're keeping him under his current contract next year.
"He's a guy you have to at least, and we know the phone rings. These GMs talk to each other all the time to see who's available and who's not. When the phone rings, you got to at least see what they're going to offer you. They should they should consider trading him." [0:30 mark]

Alvin Kamara has been one of the best players on this team for a while now. Despite some misunderstandings over the years, the veteran running back has always given his best to the Saints. But as things stand now, perhaps the best option for both parties would be to part ways while they can still get something in return for the five-time Pro-Bowler.

Rodney Harrison links Alvin Kamara with Super Bowl contenders

Former NFL safety Rodney Harrison echoed Mike Florio's sentiment. He said that not only Alvin Kamara but other high-profile names like Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis and Cam Jordan will be off the Saints' payroll for different reasons.

Further, he said that Kamara could be a terrific addition to the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost Isiah Pacheco in Week 2 due to a leg injury. While Pacheco could be nearing a return to the field, adding Kamara wouldn't sound bad for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs could use Kamara before his $10.2 million base salary turns into $22.4 million next year. But with Pacheco potentially coming back and the addition of Kareem Hunt, they might not be interested in a trade.
