NFL analyst rages against Bill Belichick's 'chump change moves' amid lackluster offseason business
Bill Belichick once ran the division. For two decades, the head coach led the AFC East. However, in recent years, the Bills and Miami Dolphins have made strides. Even the New York Jets appear to be making progress thanks to Aaron Rodgers. However, the New England Patriots have largely stood pat.
Speaking on Get Up, NFL analyst Damien Woody pressured the team in no uncertain terms about where they stand and where they need to go. Here's how he put it:
Will the Patriots make a big splash this offseason?
"How about the damn New England Patriots? Helloooo? Have we heard anything from the Patriots? The Patriots are floating on just being irrelevant. No one's talking about the Patriots. Look at the division. Everybody's loading up, making moves. You got the Jets with Aaron Rodgers, [you] see what Miami is doing."
He continued, pushing the team to win the sweepstakes for one of the top receivers available or potentially available:
"You've got the Buffalo Bills [who are] still the king of the division and here [are] the New England Patriots making chump change moves. Y'all need to do something. I've been talking about trade for D-Hop [or] OBJ."
Lastly, he tore into the existing state of the team:
"You need to make something [happen], because right now, what you [will be] trotting out there on the field? Ain't gonna be good enough. They need to make a move and they need to make it yesterday."
What moves has Patriots HC Bill Belichick made this offseason?
While the Patriots hasn't landed any big fish, they haven't completely avoided making moves, either. This offseason, according to Patriots media, the team added tight end Mike Gesicki, running back James Robinson, and wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster.
The Patriots also cut ties with backup quarterback Brian Hoyer, punter Jake Bailey, and tight end Jonnu Smith. Belichick also hired offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, who is coming off a dominating season with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The team is heading into their fourth season without Tom Brady, and the pressure to regain their place at the top of the division has reached a fever pitch. Will the team return from the edge to reclaim the attention they once had?
