NFL analyst reflects on what’s “funny” about Jerry Jones’ unhinged GM rant

Jerry Jones brought the year-long negotiation between the Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb to a close on Monday. However, before agreeing to fork over the cash, Jones had gone on an interview in which he declared that no one else could pull off what he has done in his time as Cowboys general manager.

Speaking on Tuesday's edition of "Get Up," NFL analyst Jeff Darlington responded, questioning how hard it was to sign CeeDee Lamb to a new deal.

" [10:46] The only funny thing I find about this quote, honestly, is that he said it right before he signed CeeDee Lamb to essentially a record-breaking deal when it came to guaranteed money, like talk about a tough negotiation. ... How hard was that?" Darlington asked.
"I don't understand this, like, 'thump my chest right now, because I just paid this guy all this money on a negotiation that was pretty easy to do.'"

Lamb now has a deal worth $136 million that runs through the 2029 season, per Spotrac. Jones still has Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy to deal with which has led to frustration with the fanbase. However, they aren't the only ones who have been upset this week.

Jerry Jones has led the team for decades. During this time, he undoubtedly has seen his fair share of criticism. However, at 81 years old, he appears to have had enough. Speaking in an interview on DLLS on Sunday, Jones spoke bluntly, according to an Outkick transcription.

"I’ve done it all. So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that f**k, if anybody can figure out how to get this sh*t done, I can figure out how to get it done. I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my a** a bunch, a bunch," he said.
"And there’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their a**. So hell no, there’s nobody that could f***ing come in here and do all the contracts … and be a GM any better than I can," Jones added.

Of course, while Jones gets plenty of blame for his inability to break through in the playoffs in the modern era, he has still accomplished a lot. The general manager has won three Super Bowls and led his team to dozens of campaigns of .500 or better.

Even while Jones' teams have struggled in the playoffs, their regular season production over the last three years is the first time since the 1990s that the team has stacked double-digit wins in three consecutive campaigns. As such, one could argue that he is at the top of his game with Dak Prescott and just one step away from putting the NFL on full alert.
