NFL analyst doesn't rule out another implosion for Aaron Rodgers' Jets in 2024 - "They made a deal with the devil"
The New York Jets will enter the 2024 NFL season with optimism as a healthy Aaron Rodgers returns from a season-ending Achilles injury. But one NFL analyst is skeptical about the Jets' potential.
Sportswriter and NFL analyst Michael Silver appeared on the "Up and Adams" show on Tuesday. When asked to pick between Jared Goff and Aaron Rodgers, he chose the former and explained his concerns for the Jets:
"The inertia of Rogers being there, it's New York, it's a team where they're just looking for reasons to go, 'Well, we're the Jets deep inside'," Silver said.
"...But it just feels like they made a deal with the devil and that, not only do we want Aaron Rodgers, but you can have everything you want, and we're gonna get your coordinator preemptively, we're gonna go get Lazard, we're gonna go get all these guys. And if it works great, and if not, it will implode again."
Silver didn't question Rodgers' ability to turn around the struggling franchise. But he has his doubts about the way the situation around the Jets could change at any moment:
"Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He's certainly capable of elevating the whole thing and winning. I'm not saying they can't win. But I just think it's the the potential for implosion is also very very real," Silver added.
Jets have built a strong roster to compete in 2024
The hype around Aaron Rodgers' arrival in New York last year was sensational. But it all vanished quickly when the Jets QB went down with an Achilles injury, in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
General Manager Joe Douglas built a strong roster this offseason to offer better protection for Rodgers. The Jets upgraded their offensive line with the additions of Morgan Moses, John Simpson and Tyron Smith, in the free agency. They also drafted OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu from Penn State in the 2024 NFL draft.
Furthermore, the Jets signed star wide receiver Mike Williams and drafted WR Malachi Corley and RBs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.
Heading into the season, the Jets have a much-talented roster in the AFC East, but are tied at 12th for the hardest strength of schedule, according to ESPN. All eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers, whom the Jets will once again rely on, to take them to the promised land.
