NFL analyst spells out John Elway record that Bo Nix just tied in blowout win over Sean Payton’s former team

Bo Nix has plenty of reason to celebrate heading into the mini-bye. Sean Payton's Broncos just uncorked a big-time blowout in his former team's building just four days after getting thumped in their own. In addition to climbing back above .500, the quarterback also managed to tie John Elway on a key record. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio underlined the record on Friday's show.

"225 rushing yards by the Broncos, the most that they've had in the game since 2013. 75 of them came from rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who matched John Elway and Drew Lock with four wins as a rookie, most in franchise history."

Of course, there is plenty of reason for Broncos fans to celebrate the record-tying mark, but there is a reason for caution. As Broncos fans know, Drew Lock never worked out in the end with the team. In the win against the Saints, Nix had several missed passes, including a touchdown-worthy pass to two open receivers that hit the ground between them.

Still, the final 33-10 score put on by Payton to spoil Drew Brees' special Saints Hall of Fame induction ceremony goes a long way to smooth out the missed opportunities.

The Denver Broncos are not accustomed to explosive outings, but they have had a couple in the Sean Payton era. After Thursday Night Football, the Broncos have now eclipsed at least 30 points twice in a three-game span for just the second time since 2014.

Long-time fans and football history buffs know that was when Peyton Manning was at his best with the team. As such, some may have reason to believe that the tide might finally be turning for the 4-3 Broncos after nearly a decade of missing the playoffs every season.

Of course, as with any team on a playoff-missing streak like the Broncos, it is too early to call anything a guarantee.

Will Bo Nix bring Denver their first playoffs appearance since Peyton Manning donned the orange and blue?
