NFL analyst takes hard stance on Caleb Williams’ playoff hopes as Super Bowl predictions meet reality

Caleb Williams helped the Chicago Bears overcome a 9-0 deficit against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Caleb Williams' efforts were not rewarded, however, as fellow rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Commanders pulled off the unthinkable, winning the game with a 52-yard Hail Mary as time expired.

Could that one play have changed the trajectory of the Chicago Bears' season? On ESPN's "Get Up" on Wednesday, Mike Greenberg said that Chicago will need to basically win every game at this point in order to make the playoffs. He then pinpointed the Hail Mary play as the reason Chicago will miss the postseason.

"They are going to desperately need every win that they can get going down the stretch," Greenberg said. "And so the play that was made the other day in part by Jayden Daniels, but mostly by Tyrique Stevenson, is going to cause the Bears to miss the playoffs. Does anyone at this table want to change my mind?" [00:16:00:32][16.5]

Former cornerback Domonique Foxworth wished he could disagree with that sentiment.

"I wish I could, but I can't. Yeah, I think you're probably right," Foxworth replied. "The division is tough. Their schedule isn't that hard. But Caleb's been up and down, so I think you're probably right." [00:33:00:41][7.9] Get up

Caleb Williams and Chicago Bears odds to win Super Bowl LIX?

The Chicago Bears' decision to draft Caleb Williams with the first overall selection and trade Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers was an "all-in" move. While the Bears have shown promise this season, their rookie quarterback is still adjusting.

Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, NFL analyst Nick Wright believed in the hype surrounding the Chicago Bears. In August 2024, Wright chose the Bears to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are 4-3 in a division where the once-undefeated Minnesota Vikings find them just one game ahead. The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions are sitting atop the division with six wins.

According to FOX Sports, the Bears are currently +4000 in odds of winning Super Bowl LIX. If Chicago is going to turn things around, they will need to start with this week's road matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
