NFL Draft analyst compares CJ Stroud to Aaron Rodgers in leadup to Pro Day
Aaron Rodgers is currently planning on how he should spend the last few years of his NFL career. Meanwhile, CJ Stroud is waiting to find out where he will be spending his opening years in the NFL.
Both quarterbacks have been placed on opposite sides of the spectrum so far. However, while speaking on Get Up, NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper has put the two quarterbacks in the same bucket:
"We saw the accuracy throughout his [Stroud] career with about a 70% [completion rate] the last two years. Doesn't throw interceptions. He's the college version of Aaron Rodgers, doesn't throw picks. Keep that going. Don't let many balls hit the ground. We see that in pro days all the time. You don't see balls hitting the ground. We shouldn't see that."
Will CJ Stroud be a top-three pick in the NFL Draft?
Aaron Rodgers-esque prospect CJ Stroud stares down final month of pre-NFL era
At this point, one thing is almost guaranteed. Stroud will be selected by a team in the NFL draft. The question, however, is how early or how far back. Aside from a few throws between today and the NFL draft, the quarterback's work is done.
Stroud put together a college resume, worked through the Combine, and will soon be on the other side of his pro day.
At this point, the ship has left the harbor. In college, he threw for 85 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 25 games of action.
In that same time span of time (two seasons), Rodgers threw for 63 touchdowns and 61 interceptions. At this point, one could argue that Stroud is running at double the pace of the quarterback. However, the transition to the NFL is a tricky one to pull off. It will be interesting to see if the prospect flourishes well at the professional level just like Aaron Rodgers.
