NFL fans impressed with Brock Bowers as Raiders TE records 1,000 yards as rookie - "He is 10x the player Travis Kelce is"
Brock Bowers has been one of the Las Vegas Raiders' few bright spots in a terrible 2024 season. And Sunday proved why he could be a face of the franchise in the future.
Against the similarly lowly Jacksonville Jaguars, he became just the third rookie tight end to surpass 1,000 receiving yards, after Mike Ditka (1,076) and Kyle Pitts (1,026). And the most impressive thing about it is that he was able to eventually achieve it while playing with what is arguably currently the NFL's worst quarterback rotation: Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder.
Fans were in awe of the milestone.
"bro is 10x the player (Travis) kelce is lmfao," one fan wrote.
More of the joy can be seen below.
"ROTY nobody deserve it more," one demanded.
"He’s gonna go down as a (sic) all time great," another hoped.
"That’s insane. season ain’t even over yet," another marveled.
He later set more milestones and records throughout the game:
- Most receptions by a tight end in fifteen games in Raiders franchise history
- Fourth tight end (any experience level) ever to have at least 100 receptions after 15 games
- Second rookie (any position) after Odell Beckham Jr. to have four games with 10+ receptions
- Most receptions by a rookie (any position ever)
Inevitably next for Bowers is the single-season receiving yards record among rookie tight ends. He is expected to break it next week at the New Orleans Saints.
Raiders HC Antonio Pierce, QB Aidan O’Connell praise Brock Bowers after rookie TE’s 1000-yard milestone
One person who recognizes Brock Bowers’ potential is Antonio Pierce. Following the 19-14 win against the Jacksonvile Jaguards, the head coach had nothing but praise for the newly-cemented thousand-yard rookie.
“He’s all ball, all business," Pierce said. "He doesn’t blink; he doesn’t flinch. He wants to win, and whether it’s throwing him the ball or him blocking, he’ll do whatever it takes. Again, I’m just proud of his efforts.”
Speaking to reporters after the game, quarterback Aidan O’Connell also had his thoughts about Bowers, who finished the game with 11 receptions and 99 receiving yards.
“The thing I’m most impressed about Brock is his accountability, how when he messes up on a play, which he doesn’t do very much, he takes accountability and tries to move forward. We ask a lot of him, and he answers the bell almost every time. So, obviously super lucky to have a guy like that on our team.”
The Raiders will take on the New Orleans Saints next on 29 December at 12 noon CT/10 am PT on Fox Sports.
