NFL fans stunned as Commanders seal Marshon Lattimore trade despite interest from Kansas City: "Thank God it wasn't the Chiefs":
On Tuesday, the Washington Commanders made one of the biggest trades before the 2024 NFL trade deadline, acquiring four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the news that the Saints have agreed to send the star cornerback to Washington.
"Trade! The #Saints are sending four-time Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore to the #Commanders, sources tell me and @RapSheet."
Earlier this season, the Saints restructed Lattimore's contract, meaning the Commanders will get him on a minimum contract for the rest of the season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Commanders will send a third-round pick, along with fourth and fifth-round picks for Lattimore and a fifth-round pick.
The trade made waves across social media, with fans expressing relief that Lattimore didn't end up with the Kansas City Chiefs, who have already acquired DeAndre Hopkins and Josh Uche in the last few weeks.
Here's how fans reacted:
"glad it wasnt the chiefs," one fan said.
"Thank god it ain’t KC," another fan said.
While fans were happy to see Lattimore not end up on the Chiefs, fans replied showing more confidence in the emerging Washington Commanders.
Here's how other fans reacted:
"Good job Washington. Give Jayden a chance at this thing," one fan said.
"Wow, this makes the Commander's team even better. Great move by them! They need D help, and now that they have it. New era in Washington," another fan said.
The Washington Commanders continue to stack up valuable pieces in 2024
The Washington Commanders have had one of the best years in the NFL this season, sitting at 7-2 and first place in the NFC East standings.
Their success began with changes in the front office, starting with new ownership under Josh Harris, who purchased the team earlier this year. Harris then hired Adam Peters as the team's general manager.
The Commanders went on to hire former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as their next head and also added key free agents in the off-season, including running back Austin Ekeler and tight end Zach Ertz.
The team also drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick. Daniels is currently the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. With star cornerback Marshon Lattimore now in Washington, the team is well positioned to compete for the NFC East title and make a deep Super Bowl run.
