NFL icon Patrick Willis believes 2024 is 49ers' last shot at Super Bowl glory
The San Francisco 49ers have by far been the second-most consistent team in the NFL over the last five seasons. Unfortunately, they don't have a single Super Bowl title to show for their success.
Under Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers have made the Super Bowl twice and have also lost twice in the NFC Championship Game. As per various oddsmakers, they are currently the co-favorites with the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl this season.
Hall of Famer Patrick Willis believes that this season is the last chance for the current 49ers team to win the Super Bowl. In a recent conversation with Kay Adams, the former 49ers linebacker said:
"I thought last year was that final season for all of them to really be together, but obviously as things have played out as of now, it kind of looks like this could be the last go around. So, I’m really hoping they can get it done this year for everyone."
Not many teams can sustain the success that the 49ers have had without paying the bill for it. However, the bill is coming due for the NFC West franchise, and they could lose multiple key players after this year.
Brandon Aiyuk has already requested a trade, and Trent Williams is also looking for a restructured deal. Moreover, key players like Charvarius Ward and Dre Greenlaw will be free agents next year, and with Brock Purdy expected to sign a new deal in the near future, it will be very hard for them to keep a stacked roster.
As Willis said, this upcoming season could be the last chance for the 49ers to win the Super Bowl. Kyle Shanahan's team should make the most of their opportunity, as they might not be in a similar position to contend for years to come.
The Eagles will be the 49ers' biggest obstacle on the path to the Super Bowl
The path to the Super Bowl is not going to be easy for the San Francisco 49ers this season. The Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Atlanta Falcons have all gotten better this offseason, and the playoffs will not be a cakewalk.
Among all the other teams, the Eagles will be the 49ers' biggest obstacle on their path to the Super Bowl. The NFC East franchise is coming off a disappointing season, and they already have a big rivalry with the reigning NFC Champions. Last year, the 49ers exposed the Eagles' biggest weaknesses to the rest of the league, and Philadelphia will hope to return the favor this time.
As of now, the 49ers should focus on keeping Brandon Aiyuk, as without him it will be quite tough for their offense to be as explosive as they were last year.
