NFL insider delivers big update on Bryce Young's future with Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young was selected No. 1 in the 2023 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers. A year and a half later, Young's name is being brought up in potential trade rumors as he could be moved by the Panthers.
Young, like most rookie quarterbacks, struggled in his debut season, going 2-14 as the team's starting quarterback. He completed 59.8% of his passes for 2,877 yards and threw for 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This season, after an 0-2 start, coach Dave Canales benched Young after two games in favor of veteran backup Andy Dalton.
With the trade deadline less than a month away, Young's name has begun to surface in trade talks. On Tuesday, NFL insider Dianna Russini hinted that Carolina could pull the trigger and move on from Young, as there are teams potentially interested in putting a waiver on him.
"I think there's a lot of GMs out there kind of licking their chops going, 'Maybe we can do something with him,'" Russini said.
Young has completed 37 of 65 passes (56.9%) this season for 299 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions.
In the five games he's played, Andy Dalton has gone 1-4 and has completed 66.3% of passes for 989 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He is still currently their starting quarterback.
Bryce Young is asked if he would like to be traded before the 2024 trade deadline
Even after being put in for one series in the Carolina Panthers' 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Panthers coach Dave Canales confirmed that Bryce Young will still serve as the team's backup.
Speaking to the media following the loss, Young was asked if he would like a fresh start elsewhere as the trade deadline approaches.
"That stuff, I can’t control," Young said. "I’m grateful for where I’m at, I’m grateful to be a part of the Panthers, to be here in the Carolinas—I’m grateful for that. So, that’s how I feel and, obviously, that stuff’s out of my control."
The trade deadline expires on Nov. 5, at 4 p.m. ET. There are many big names, such as Mike Williams, Garrett Wilson, Cooper Kupp, Maxx Crosby, DeAndre Hopkins and others, who are rumored to be on the trade block.
