NFL insider delivers troubling Hollywood Brown injury update, Chiefs WR at risk of missing Week 1
Hollywood Brown suffered a shoulder injury during the Kansas City Chiefs' preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 27-year-old wideout suffered a dislocation of his sternovascular shoulder and will miss time.
As per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Brown is expected to miss four to six weeks due to this injury. His status for the Chiefs' Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens is now up in the air, and the chances of him missing that game are much higher.
The former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver signed a one-year $7 million deal with the Chiefs this offseason and was listed as the WR2 behind Rashee Rice. Due to Hollywood Brown's injury, other players like Skyy Moore and Justyn Ross could get an opportunity to prove their worth and earn a roster spot by playing well in the rest of the preseason games.
The Chiefs will still heavily rely on Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Isiah Pacheco to be the main contributors on offense and make life easy for Patrick Mahomes. Hopefully, rookie receiver Xavier Worthy can stay healthy and produce in Brown's absence.
Hollywood Brown injury: A look at Chiefs WR depth chart
As mentioned above, Hollywood Brown's injury has opened the door for other receivers on the team to become a contributor for the team. Both Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney didn't play well last year, and they need to be better in the training camp and the preseason games to get playing time this upcoming season.
Justyn Ross missed time last season due to his suspension but has once again impressed everyone during the training camp. The Chiefs fans expect big things from him, and it will be interesting to see if Andy Reid gives him playing time this year.
The Chiefs will hope that the NFL doesn't suspend Rashee Rice for his offseason troubles. If Rice gets suspended, things could get very tricky for the reigning Super Bowl champions. They then will have to rely on players who haven't had much success so far in their career or a rookie like Worthy who could take some time to adjust in the NFL.
Here's how the Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers depth chart looks like without Brown:
- WR1: Rashee Rice
- WR2: Xavier Worthy
- WR3: Justin Watson
- WR4: Skyy Moore
- WR5: Kadarius Toney
- WR6: Justyn Ross
