NFL insider details private conversation with Caleb Williams teammate that might make fantasy managers drop Bears QB

Caleb Williams is a rookie quarterback and one of the unspoken rules of fantasy football is to never draft a rookie quarterback. The outcomes are too extreme for most managers to justify spending a pick on. However, Williams was one prospect who was hyped enough and surrounded by enough skill for managers to defy the unspoken norm.

Speaking on a September 12 edition of "Get Up," NFL analyst Kimberley A. Martin spoke about a private conversation she had with Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet.

"I talked to their tight end Cole Kmet last night on the phone, and he said, you know, Caleb is not a guy who's worried about stats," Martin said [2:20].

If Williams doesn't care about his statistics, managers have every reason to move on from the quarterback. Some may hold onto him in the hopes that he stumbles his way into big games without considering his statistics. However, others may take one look at this and choose to move on immediately.

The rookie quarterback had one of the wild card matchups of the week to kick off the season. However, in Week 2, the stage will be even bigger. Williams will make his primetime debut in a showdown against last year's rookie sensation CJ Stroud.

Fans are braced for an exciting matchup full of twists and turns. Some fans strictly watch the NFL, so they have only heard stories and hype about the Chicago Bears quarterback. Put simply, this will be Williams' opportunity to make a good impression.

If he stumbles this week, it could take months or years to get the NFL zeitgeist back on his side. However, if he upsets CJ Stroud or at least goes blow for blow, fans could take months or years to fully give up on him.

Either way, first impressions are lasting. Williams will face Stroud to impress many on Sunday, September 15 at 8:20 PM EST.
