NFL insider drops massive red flag on Jahan Dotson trade

The Jahan Dotson trade is causing a stir in the NFC East. Intradivisional trades rarely happen, so fans are interested to see how this one turns out.

However, the usually praised Eagles general manager might have stepped in a trap with the trade. At least, that is what comments made by one NFL insider indicated.

Speaking on an August 23 edition of Good Morning Football, insider Kyle Brandt pointed at a massive red flag for the Eagles.

Kyle Brandt: [00:01:40] "I think it's safe to say he's been underwhelming through the first couple of years. Everything I heard coming out of Commanders camp was that he was trying to find a way to fit in as the number two receiver, and by fit in, he maybe was not working out," he said. This potentially sets up the Eagles, who had perhaps felt that they had locked down a number three receiver overnight, for trouble. With AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith seemingly locked in at the top of the depth chart, there is no indication that a number two spot was up for grabs.

Smith just signed a new extension, increasing the likelihood that the Eagles expect the wide receiver to remain elevated on the chart. If Dotson was holding out for a second-string position and could not get it in Washington, it is unlikely that he can get the promotion with the Eagles.

Could Dotson hold out if he doesn't get his way with two teams in one year?

The Ron Rivera-Daniel Snyder era is over, but some of the pieces from that time remain. With Josh Harris now having been in the building for quite some time, changes are coming for Washington.

The biggest change was at quarterback position via the addition of Jayden Daniels. However, arguably one of the team's biggest recent picks, Montez Sweat, was dealt to the Bears.

In just a short period of time, the Commanders have moved on from their owner, their long-time head coach, their quarterback and one of their biggest defensive investments. Now, Jahan Dotson is also out the door.

If the new era is going to go in a new direction this season and give fans a new experience in 2024, the changes could be felt as soon as this season.
