NFL insider makes Seahawks WR DK Metcalf’s future clear with trade deadline hours away
Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf has been the subject of trade rumors ahead of the 2024 NFL deadline. The Seahawks' season has been a rollercoaster, and after a 3–0 start to the campaign, they are now one of the most inconsistent teams.
Following the 26–20 overtime loss to the LA Rams in Week 9, rumors about a potential departure of Metcalf got louder. However, insider Adam Schefter says the receiver will stay at Lumen Field.
"Despite any speculation, the Seahawks will not be trading wide receiver D.K. Metcalf by today’s 4 pm trade deadline," Schefter tweeted.
On Monday, Schefter joined the Pat McAfee show to discuss this situation, saying the same thing he confirmed with his Tuesday tweet.
"That's an example of a curveball I'm not expecting...I've heard nothing about DK Metcalf. That's the first time I've heard about that," Schefter said.
This might surprise some, but Metcalf was a player of interest for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Reporter Andrew Fillipponi revealed on Tuesday that the AFC North team was set to call the Seahawks to inquire about the possibility of landing Metcalf. This wouldn't be the first time they tried to engage in trade talk regarding this player.
The Steelers have exceeded expectations in the first half of the 2024 NFL season, and adding another weapon next to George Pickens has been a huge goal for them. During the offseason, they were in the mix for Brandon Aiyuk; then, they joined the Davante Adams sweepstakes and were reportedly close to getting a deal done for Christian Kirk.
Schefter reported they were interested in Mike Williams of the Jets and Adam Thielen of the Panthers before the deadline.
When is DK Metcalf returning to action?
DK Metcalf suffered an MCL injury in Seattle's Week 7 win against the Atlanta Falcons and has missed the last two games for the Seahawks. With their bye week coming this one, Mike MacDonald believes the veteran will be ready to go after Week 10.
"We’re working through it and he’s doing everything he can to get back as soon as possible, but having the extra week will definitely help," he said, via Brady Henderson.
After a 3–0 start, the Seahawks are 4–5, ranking last in the NFC West division. Some would think they would be sellers before the trade deadline, but Metcalf isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
