NFL insider provides major Jimmy Garoppolo injury update that could impact their playoff hopes
During Sunday's Week 13 victory over the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a foot injury and was carted off the field. He didn't return for the rest of the game. In the first quarter, Garoppolo was sacked by Jerome Baker and Jaelan Phillips, and he landed awkwardly on his foot.
Backup quarterback Brock Purdy stepped in and carried the 49ers to victory over the Dolphins.
Following the game, it was reported that Garoppolo was expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken foot injury.
On Tuesday, December 6, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Jimmy Garoppolo could return this season itself.
Doctors decided that he doesn't need foot surgery on his Lisfranc injury and if rehab goes well, he could return to the field in 7-8 weeks. This would see him come back around the divisional round/conference championship.

For now, rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, aka Mr. Irrelelavant, will take the helm at quarterback. He finished Sunday's game vs. the Dolphins, completing 25 of 37 passes for 210 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 33–17 win.
The rookie from Purdue will make his first career start this Sunday vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The San Francisco 49ers have had bad luck at the quarterback position this season.
Heading into the 2022 campaign, they announced that second-year quarterback Trey Lance would lead the team and be their starter. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
Jimmy Garoppolo re-signed a one-year deal to stay with the team as the backup for the season. He suffered a foot injury in Sunday's game vs. Miami, which puts him out for 7-8 weeks. As a result, the 49ers will have their third starting quarterback of the year.
They even missed out on the chance to sign Baker Mayfield. The Los Angeles Rams claimed him off of waivers.
Garoppolo finished the season 7-3 as the starting quarterback while throwing for 2,437 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of passes.
There's a chance Jimmy G will return for the playoffs, but only time will tell. Meanwhile, it's Purdy time in San Fran.
