NFL insider reveals major Kyler Murray concern for Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon with $230M QB stepping up rehab
Kyler Murray's defensive coordinator is gone along with his head coach. Simply put, the quarterback stands at the precipice of change. With so much going on with the Cardinals, it will be one of the biggest upheavals of his football career.
Embracing the change will likely take his full physical and mental commitment, but as the quarterback is still rehabbing from injury, his capabilities will be compromised in at least one way.
Will Kyler Murray reach the playoffs in 2023?
An NFL insider who spoke exclusively to Sportskeeda said:
“The fact that Kyler will be out until Week 1 will make it difficult but not impossible for him to fully understand and grasp all components of a new offense since the injury will preclude onfield work.”
Kyler Murray nosedives in first season following massive payday
From 2019 through 2021, the quarterback saw steady improvement every year. In his rookie season, he went 5-10-1 and threw for 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In 2020, he threw for 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and went 8-8. In 2021, he threw for 24 touchdowns, ten interceptions, and went 9-5, reaching the playoffs for the first time.
Heading into 2022, money was on the mind of the quarterback and he got signed through 2028 in a $230 million deal, per Spotrac. Some begged the Cardinals to put off the deal for another year, but they eventually caved and gave the quarterback his money.
In his first year with the new salary, he took a steep step back, winning the fewest games of his career in a season at 3-8. He also threw 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions, the worst stats of his career .
Lastly, the quarterback's size anxieties from before he was drafted reared their heads as well, knocking the quarterback out for the year near the end of the season.
Of course, as many athletes say, it takes a setback to make a comeback. Under the new coaching staff, will the quarterback find a way to be one of the top contenders for Comeback Player of the Year in 2023?
