NFL insider warns Nick Sirianni in hot seat as Eagles GM Howie Roseman observes

Nick Sirianni has had a great few years with the Philadelphia Eagles ever since Howie Roseman brought him in. He began from an unenviable position of replacing a Super Bowl-winning coach, Doug Pederson.

He oversaw the departure of Carson Wentz and the promotion of second-round pick Jalen Hurts into a bonafide starter. And he led them to a championship appearance in the 2022 season.

The 2023 season began great for the Eagles, and at one point, it looked like Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman's team were the favorites for the Super Bowl. They were the last undefeated franchise, even though the margins were becoming increasingly narrow for the victories as the year progressed.

Towards the later part of the season, the wheels came off. An abysmal ending in 2023 saw them cough up the Divison title to the Dallas Cowboys after being in pole position for much of the year. That meant they had to go on the road in the playoffs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and promptly lost in the Wild Card round.

It happened despite many believing that they had a roster to compete for the Super Bowl again. They had the best offensive line, one could argue, created by Jeff Stoutland. They had given Jalen Hurts some of the best receivers in the league in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. And the defense was loaded with superstars too.

Since then Nick Sirianni has been under the microscope and NFL Insider Dianna Russini believes that Howie Roseman is not going to tolerate mediocrity. She said on the Scoop City podcast:

"If we know that Howie believes the roster is built for a championship, that tells you the leash probably isn't that long."

Russini also believes Nick Sirianni's current coordinators Howie Roseman's picks

After the debacle of last season, the Eagles got new offensive and defensive coordinators. Kellen Moore joined on offense and Vic Fangio took up the mantle on defense.

While they nominally report to the coach, Russini believes that Howie Roseman had a lot of say on these picks. In the same podcast, beginning at the 13-minute mark, she remarked:

"In terms of moving forward into this season, Howie had his hands all over the decisions when it came to the coordinator position."

If these reports are true, Nick Sirianni will need to ensure that the Eagles get off to a fast start. Given that's what they did last season too, perhaps the bigger concern will be if they can maintain the momentum even if they do.
