NFL insider weighs in as Terry McLaurin’s future hangs in the balance

Terry McLaurin's future with the Washington Commanders has been the subject of speculation. The wideout is entering the final year of his contract with the Commanders, and reports have claimed that McLaurin is "frustrated" with the lack of progress on a potential long-term deal.

On Monday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport weighed in on McLaurin's situation with the Commanders.

"I know Terry was not there for a lot of it," Rapoport said on rumors of McLaurin missing the OTAs on 'The Pat McAfee' show. "And I would say very much up in the air whether he shows up this week at a contract situation that as of right now, is not great."

Washington took McLaurin with the No. 76 pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He inked a four-year, $3.8 million rookie contract with the franchise.

In 2022, McLaurin agreed to a three-year, $68,364,000 extension with the Commanders. The deal included a $28 million signing bonus.

In 2025, McLaurin is set to earn a $15.5 million base salary, a roster bonus of $2.8 million and a workout bonus of $500,000.

Since the Commanders and McLaurin are reportedly not close to agreeing to terms on a new deal, there is a possibility that the wideout might get traded this offseason.

Terry McLaurin recorded 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns on 82 receptions in the 2024 season, leading the team in all three categories. He forged an excellent partnership with Jayden Daniels, helping the Commanders qualify for the playoffs.

In three postseason games, McLaurin posted 225 yards and three touchdowns on 14 receptions. He helped the Commanders reach the NFC championship game, where they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

McLaurin has 1,000+ receiving yards in each of his five previous seasons in Washington. He will be aiming to continue that record in the 2025 season and potentially land a lucrative extension with the franchise.
