NFL kicker Brandon McManus, Jacksonville Jaguars sued in $1,000,000 sexual assault case: report
Former Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Brandon McManus and his team are being sued by two women for an incident that alleged happened during the team's flight to London last year, according to documents obtained by ESPN. The Jaguars usually play one game per season in London.
Both women are demanding over $1 million and a jury trial in the lawsuit. Their identities haven't been revealed, and they've been identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II.
The lawsuit was filed on Friday, May 24, at the Duval County Circuit Civil Count, and it accuses McManus of "rubbing himself against them and grinding against them", while also accusing the team of failing to create a safe environment around the team.
McManus' attorney, Brett Gallaway, released a statement Monday night categorically denying the charges.
"These are absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to defame and disparage a talented and well-respected NFL player.
"We intend to aggressively defend Brandon's rights and integrity and clear his name by showing what these claims truly are -- an extortion attempt."
The Jaguars also released a statement:
"We're aware of the complaint, and we acknowledge the significance of the claims," the team said in the release.
"As we continue to look into the matter, it bears emphasizing that we insist on an organization built by people who represent our community and game with the highest character and class."
Both alleged victims said in the lawsuit that they have experienced mental problems, anxiety, psychological and emotional distress. McManus signed with the Washington Commanders during the offseason.
What happened when the Jaguars and McManus played in London?
The team played there for two weeks in two different stadiums as part of the NFL International Series. The Jaguars won both games: first, a 23-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons at the Wembley Stadium, and a week later, a 25-20 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Jacksonville usually plays a game per season in the United Kingdom; this year, they will once again play twice there, against the Chicago Bears in Week 6 and against the New England Patriots a week later.
