NFL launches investigation into Nick Bosa's 'MAGA' hat display at 49ers SNF for potential fine
San Francisco 49ers defender Nick Bosa raised plenty of eyebrows after the team beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. During the postgame interview with star quarterback Brock Purdy, Bosa wore a "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) hat to show support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
He even went to the camera and pointed his finger at the white hat before leaving the scene. That moment didn't sit well with plenty of fans, especially those saying that Colin Kaepernick received poor treatment after he made a political statement too.
CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones reports that the NFL has launched an investigation into this event and shared the potential punishment that Bosa could receive next week.
"The NFL is looking into Nick Bosa wearing a MAGA hat Sunday postgame. There will not be a determination on any potential fine until later next week. I'm told there is no consideration for any potential suspension."
Following a 30-24 win over the Cowboys, the 49ers boast a 4-4 record and remain tied atop the NFC West division with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
Bosa could be fined $11,255 for violating Rule 5, Article 4, Section 8 of the NFL rulebook. This states that "players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office."
Nick Bosa refused to elaborate on his postgame antics against Cowboys
Nick Bosa's postgame actions stirred the pot around the NFL, but when reporters inquired about it, he didn't want to address that moment.
"I'm not going to talk too much about it but I think it's an important time."
The relationship between Bosa and Donald Trump isn't new. The former U.S. President congratulated him upon his selection to the NFL in the 2019 Draft.
“Congratulations to Nick Bosa on being picked number two in the NFL Draft. You will be a great player for years to come, maybe one of the best. Big Talent! San Francisco will embrace you, but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
More recently, Bosa and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow were spotted chatting with Trump at UFC 299 earlier this year.
