NFL reporter calls for Bears to bench Caleb Williams with immediate effect

Calls for Chicago Bears to bench rookie quarterback Caleb Williams following his struggles against the Seattle Seahawks have picked pace. The Bears lost their 10th game in a row on Thursday.

Williams threw an interception in the game and was sacked seven times. NFL reporter Evan Cohen was critical of Williams' disappointing performance. The journalist shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting the NFL star work with a coach during the offseason. He wrote:

"Bears ownership should mandate Caleb Williams does not play another snap this season. You can not risk his off season being dominated by rehab if he suffers an injury @ GB. His offseason needs to be married to his new coach so he can become the QB they know he can be."

The Chicago Bears have struggled immensely this season. They have not won a single game since the 35-16 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 12 as they find themselves 4-12 after Week 17.

Caleb Williams reflects on his performance after the loss against the Seahawks

The 10th straight loss led fans to erupt into "sell the team" chants. Caleb Williams was sacked seven times, bringing his season total to league high 67 sacks.

During the press conference, the 23-year-old QB acknowledged his poor performance and said he didn’t "put the team in a good position to win." He said (45:22):

"I will say that I'll definitely take the heat for this one, just 'cause of some situations that I put us in. Like I said, that sack that I took, that I didn't need to take, which put us—we were empty, and I brought a guy from the boundary. Just throw it over the guy's head and you're still playing. I didn’t play well enough. I didn’t help put the team in a good position to win – a better position to win, and it’s what it is."

He further reflected on the lessons he learned from the match. He added (50:18):

"Frustrating, annoyed, but learning, I would say. I definitely think that this is going to be good for me. Excited about this last game and then excited about the future."

The Bears still have a chance to change their fate and break their losing streak in their next match. They will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 18.
