NFL Rumors: Packers ready to dump Aaron Rodgers for Jordan Love in 2023
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers appear to be struggling to get on the same page about their future together. While the superstar quarterback has spent his entire career with the franchise, the last couple of years have been rocky, especially during the offseason. This is the second year in a row that rumors are swirling about his potential exit from the team.
During the 2022 offseason, Rodgers debated retirement and contemplated asking to be traded. While he ultimately stayed in Green Bay following a massive contract extension, this offseason has brought the same situation. He seems to be leaving the Packers in limbo, unsure about the availability of their quarterback ahead of the 2023 season.
The Packers apparently may be ready to take control of the situation and go in a different direction, avoiding the annual drama. According to NFL writer Bob McGinn, the franchise appears ready to move on from Rodgers and begin a new future with Jordan Love.
If this is true, it would be an extremely bold move by the Packers. Aaron Rodgers has been named MVP in two of the last three seasons. He has now won the award four times, trailing only Peyton Manning for the most in NFL history.
While these are extremely high standards to live up to, the Packers are seemingly more confident than ever that Jordan Love is ready to step up and begin his career as a full-time starter.
Is Jordan Love ready to take over for Aaron Rodgers as the Packers QB?
While Aaron Rodgers is one of the most successful regular-season quarterbacks in NFL history, his performances during the playoffs have been disappointing. Since winning a Super Bowl for the 2010 season, he has failed to return to the game. His failure to win another Vince Lombardi Trophy may be a reason why the Packers are considering parting ways with him.
If they do in fact make the decision to go with Jordan Love, it would be a major risk. They selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, but he has barely seen any action. He's attempted just 83 passes in three years, while recording three touchdowns and three interceptions.
The limited sample size makes it extremely difficult to know whether or not Jordan Love is an NFL-ready quarterback right now. The Packers organization would have a better feel for where he's at than anyone else, so if they believe he's ready, they could be right. After all, they made a similar decision to move on from Brett Favre in favor of Aaron Rodgers. The bold move worked out just fine.
