NFL Rumors: Patriots locker room "teetering on a mutiny"
The New England Patriots locker room is reportedly becoming a troubled place, as per a report. Patriots.com reporter Evan Lazar made a comment on the team’s 'Catch 22' podcast that aired on Thursday, saying the locker room is "teetering on a mutiny."
“Right now, they’re teetering on a mutiny in that locker room,” Lazar said, via Boston.com. “I was in that locker room on Sunday, the defense is mad at the defense, the offense is mad at the offense.
“You have young receivers who are throwing tantrums … at what point in time do some of these guys say to themselves ‘Why am I out there getting my butt kicked and Drake can’t? Why am I going out there with a quarterback that can’t get me the football when we have a Ferrari back in the garage?'”
The podcast was pulled from the audio platforms but it was still up on YouTube. The comments from the New England reporter went viral as many Patriots fans were concerned with this alleged revelation.
The Patriots are off to a 1-3 start and have lost three straight games. New England is coming off a 30-13 road loss to the San Francisco 49ers and host the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.
Patriots walks back on his comments
Following Evan Lazar's appearance on the 'Catch 22' podcast, he went on '98.5 The Sports Hub' to clarify his comments.
Lazar said he misspoke on the podcast and added that there were some concerns in the Patriots locker room.
“I’m sure you’ve been there, Joe, yourself, just in the heat of the moment. The word I used — mutiny — there’s no mutiny in the Patriots locker room. Like I said, I got carried away and that was my bad. That’s not what was going on.
“I just think the biggest thing I worry about, and this is just me personally and my opinion, is how long the rest of the players in the locker room are going to sit there and take their lumps while Drake Maye waits in the wings and waits for his turn. That was my opinion and it came out a little stronger than I intended it to.”
The Patriots are one-point favorites to defeat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Having lost three on the trot, they can't afford to drop another game.
