NFL Rumors: Ravens failed to ensure Lamar Jackson's return to OC candidates

Despite uncertainty over Lamar Jackson's future, the Baltimore Ravens hired Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator to replace Greg Roman. Monken previously served as Georgia's offensive coordinator, guiding the team to back-to-back national championships.

According to Jordan Schultz of Score, throughout the hiring process, the Ravens did not guarantee that Jackson would return to play for them next season.

With contract talks between Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens failing to proceed, the team is set to franchise tag him for the upcoming season. However, if the situation does not improve, the franchise may be tempted to trade Jackson, as many teams will be eager to provide a plethora of draft picks to acquire him.

Although Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he expects Jackson to return to the team next season, the franchise and the player are still far apart when it comes to the terms of the contract extension. Last season demonstrated that this Ravens team would not be a contender without Jackson, which is why the situation must be resolved quickly.

According to reports, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson turned down a contract offer of $133 million fully guaranteed at the start of this past season. He is undoubtedly seeking at least $230 million in completely guaranteed money as he wants to get paid in a similar bracket to Deshaun Watson.

Jackson is a former NFL MVP who has demonstrated that when healthy, he can be a top-five quarterback in the league. Furthermore, he loves the franchise and the city, but Jackson believes he is entitled to far more money than the Ravens have offered him.

When Mark Andrews goes to sleep at night, does he honestly not have a single doubt enter his brian that he might not have Lamar Jackson next year?

“No. I think Lamar is a Raven for life.”

Mark then offered to give up his paycheck to keep Lamar. https://t.co/pH4iKe8XbY

Watson didn't play football for almost two years and despite his troubles off the field, he was offered such money, which is why Jackson may feel he should get paid around that region as well.

Every year, there are concerns surrounding the Ravens' quarterback's health, but if the franchise doesn't pay him soon, there are multiple teams across the league that would love to spend big money to have a talent like him on their team.
