NFL Trade Rumors: Davante Adams' Raiders future hinging on 2024 condition as Super Bowl contender bides its time
Throughout his tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders, Davante Adams has often been linked with a move to the New York Jets. Even though the 2024 NFL trade deadline is still over a month away, speculations have started about several players.
ESPN's Dan Graziano mentioned in his story that although Adams is not looking to leave the Raiders, if the team falls out of contention, the star receiver could be made available for other teams.
Graziano reported that Adams will earn $16.89 million this year, but the team that acquires him via trade will only have to pay half of that this year. The 31-year-old wideout is still among the best players at his position, and a team like the Jets would love to have him.
However, if the Raiders continue to play well with Gardner Minshew as their quarterback, Adams could stay in Las Vegas. The AFC West franchise is coming off a huge 26-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, and they will feel a lot more positive about their chances going forward.
Davante Adams signed a five-year, $140 million deal with the Raiders in 2022. He has two years left on his deal, but the $72 million+ that he's projected to earn in the next two seasons is not guaranteed, so any team could part ways with him after this season.
Due to his contract, multiple contenders could pursue Adams. The possibility of a reunion with Aaron Rodgers in New York remains the most likely scenario if the receiver leaves the Raiders.
Davante Adams is off to a good start in 2024
Age is just a number for Davante Adams, as he's off to a good start this season. In two games, he has 14 receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown on 18 targets. He's averaging 84.5 receiving yards per game and 12.1 yards per reception with Minshew as his quarterback.
The Raiders' offense is expected to improve as the season progresses, and it wouldn't surprise many if they have enough success to convince Adams to stay. The 2024 NFL trade deadline is on Nov. 5. The Raiders have these games before the deadline:
- Week 3: vs Carolina Panthers
- Week 4: vs Cleveland Browns
- Week 5: @ Denver Broncos
- Week 6: vs Pittsburgh Steelers
- Week 7: @ Los Angeles Rams
- Week 8: vs Kansas City Chiefs
- Week 9: @ Cincinnati Bengals
Based on how they played against the Ravens, the Raiders could be 5-4 at the trade deadline, which might be enough to keep Adams on the roster.
