NFL Trade Rumors: Insider outlines asking price on Davante Adams trade
The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly looking to trade Davante Adams. The franchise has reached out to other teams in the league to gauge their interest in trading for the wide receiver.
Adams, who will turn 32 in December, is still one of the best receivers in the league and will have multiple teams trying to trade for him. As per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders are looking for a trade package consisting of a second-round pick and additional compensation for Adams.
Back in 2022, the Raiders gave up a first- and a second-round pick to get Adams from the Green Bay Packers. Since then, the wide receiver has 221 receptions for 2,869 yards and 23 touchdowns in 37 games for the franchise.
Davante Adams addresses uncertain future with Raiders
Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce recently liked a post on social media saying that Davante Adams has already played his last snap for the team. Adams was asked about it on the "Up & Adams" Show, to which he responded:
“I haven’t heard from him (Pierce). I haven’t talked to him. I don’t really know what that’s about... A lot of people saw it, wondering what’s going on and people reached out. But I haven’t spoken to him."
He further talked about his uncertain future with the Raiders and added:
"It’s one of those situations where I put my head down and keep doing my thing and let the chips fall where they may as it pertains to that."
Following these comments, it was reported that Adams has told the Raiders that he prefers to get traded. Once that report came out, the Raiders' asking price mentioned earlier in this article was also revealed to the entire league.
The NFL trade deadline is on Nov. 4, and Adams is likely to be playing for a new team by then.
Davante Adams contract details
Davante Adams signed a five-year, $140 million deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. If he gets traded to a different team on the trade deadline, Adams will count for only $8.6 million against the team's salary cap. However, if he gets traded right now, he will count for $13.5 million against the salary cap.
Adams still has two years left on his deal, but he is due to get paid a non-guaranteed amount of $36.25 million in each of the two years. As a result, a team acquiring him via trade this year could easily release him after the season without taking any cap hit.
Davante Adams landing spots
As of now, the New York Jets seem like the best destination for Davante Adams. Their offense has not played well so far, and the addition of Adams will help to bring the best out of Aaron Rodgers and make them a formidable Super Bowl contender.
Unlike the Kansas City Chiefs, the Jets can afford his contract and keep him on the roster beyond this season.
Some other teams that would love the addition of Adams and have the cap space to afford his contract include:
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Washington Commanders
- Detroit Lions
