NFL Trade Rumors: Why potential Bryce Young trade is complicated for ex-Heisman winner

Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales spoke about Bryce Young's future with the franchise after he was benched following a tough start to the 2024 NFL season. With Andy Dalton now taking over the former No. 1 overall pick, speculation about the latter's future started swirling.

Canales was asked on Wednesday about a potential trade involving Young, and he had a clear answer. With people wondering whether Young would be traded, his coach explained where the Panthers stand.

"That's not something we're really considering," Canales said, per Ian Rapoport.

The former Buccaneers offensive coordinator clarified Young can be back on the field this week if the team needs him to. He added that he believes Young can still become a franchise quarterback.

They haven't given up on the Alabama product yet. Perhaps Young taking a seatback and letting Dalton get some reps can help him return to the field in the best shape.

Young has struggled even more than last season, completing only 31 of 56 passing attempts for 245 yards, zero touchdown passes and three interceptions. He was sacked six times, looking worse than in 2023.

Relieving Baker Mayfield's career last season in Tampa, Dave Canales was signed to try to do the same with Young. However, the quarterback hasn't found his rhythm. The Panthers are one of the worst franchises in the NFL. And while some fans, including LeBron James, had encouraging words for Young, others say his lack of progress is the organization's fault.

Young completed 346 of 583 passes for 3,122 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his 18 starts with the Panthers. On the dark side, he fumbled 11 times, including six losses.

Former NFL quarterback says Bryce Young should be traded

After reports about Young losing his starting role saw the light, it didn't take long for fans and analysts to start speculating about potential trades. Former NFL quarterback turned analyst Dan Orlovsky said:

"I think Bryce Young is done in Carolina and I would encourage them to trade him."

He then named an NFC West team that could use the young QB's services:

"If I were the Los Angeles Rams I would probably make a call."

The Rams have struggled to start the season, and perhaps adding Young to the roster could help them revamp their injury-riddled season.
