Nick Sirianni refuses to look over his shoulder despite rumors of Bill Belichick gunning for Eagles HC job
Nick Sirianni is under a lot of pressure this season to keep his job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, especially after the team's disastrous finish last season. However, he dismisses any concern regarding Bill Belichick taking over his job despite rumors.
In January earlier this year, the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick parted ways after spending 24 seasons together. Since then, Belichick has been on the hunt for a new coaching job without success. Nonetheless, rumors persist that the Eagles' front office has earmarked Belichick as a mid-season replacement if Sirianni falters.
In a recent interview with CBS Sports the Philadelphia Eagles head coach refused to be bogged down by these reports. He said:
“All I really took at this was I had Mr. Lurie's [Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie] trust and they said, 'Hey, let's go back and let's do it again.' That's all I thought about. I haven't really thought about anything else. I think it's really tricky to think about things that you can't control.”
Nick Sirianni further expanded on his control over his destiny in the upcoming season:
“Control what you can control. That's what I've tried to do and trying to lead this team like I've always tried to lead this team.”
Nick Sirianni’s Eagles went on a six-game losing streak towards the tail-end of the last season and were knocked out of the playoffs in the wildcard round.
In addition to Nick Sirianni's spot, Bill Belichick doesn’t lack jobs
Despite not gearing up to lead an NFL team, the eight-time Super Bowl winner coach will have his hands full when the season starts. However, it was announced that Bill Belichick will join the "Inside the NFL" cast as a pundit.
Belichick will also lend his credibility to ESPN’s "Monday Night Football" as an analyst during the season. However, as per several reports, Belichick is looking to get back into coaching as soon as a spot opens up. Only time will tell whether that will be Sirianni’s or someone else’s.
