Nick Wright once said he believes Packers fleeced Jets in Aaron Rodgers trade - "It's a pretty damn good haul"
After months of speculation and negotiations, Aaron Rodgers has been traded to the New York Jets. As reported by Adam Schefter, the Jets gave up this year's No. 13 draft pick, a 2023 2nd-round pick (No. 42), a 6th-round pick (No. 207), a conditional 2024 2nd-round pick, and a 2023 5th-round pick to get Rodgers.
While some think that the Jets didn't overpay to get Rodgers, Nick Wright believes that the Green Bay Packers have fleeced the AFC East team. He thinks that the Packers have got good assets in return of Rodgers, who was a declining quarterback.
Here's what Nick Wright said on 'First Things First':
"I got to tell you, I think it's a pretty damn good haul for the Packers. I think that's about as good as the Packers possibly could have done to move up two spots this year, which would have cost you like a fourth rounder, a second round pick this year, and then likely a first round pick next year."
"I like it a lot for the Jets or for the Packers and even if you don't, he doesn't reach threshold. That means something disastrous happened. You're glad to get rid of him and you get a second rounder next year. So, I think they're in good shape."
As things stand, Nick Wright's remarks about the trade seem to have been spot on as the Green Bay Packers came out as big winners from this process. They have also given Jordan Love an opportunity to prove himself worthy of being the franchise quarterback and he has looked solid in the early parts of the 2023 season.
Meanwhile, the Jets wanted a superstar quarterback to contend with, and they got one in Aaron Rodgers. However, the veteran quarterback's Achilles injury has left the franchise in quite a pickle.
Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. The signal-caller is set to be sidelined for the rest of the 2023 campaign after undergoing surgery.
While there is talk of Rodgers potentially returning for the playoffs, the Jets have an uphill challenge of reaching the postseason in the first place without the 39-year-old.
Aaron Rodgers rehab: Jets QB speaks on potential comeback this season
On Oct. 15, Aaron Rodgers was seen throwing a football ahead of the Jets' Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite needing crutches to walk properly, he showed some promising signs of potentially making a comeback this season.
The following week, Rodgers spoke to reporters and said that he no longer needed crutches but walked with a slight limp:
"It's been more of a grind the last week or so, but a lot of good things were trending towards trying to get down to 100% walking normally. I invited Eli [Manning] last night to play a little catch with me, so maybe on Sunday, I plan on being back for our game as the road team at MetLife.
"I haven't been on crutches since returning from the game on the 15th. But I don't quite have the strength in my calf to be able to walk without limping."
Although all signs point towards Rodgers being unable to recover in time to play again this season, the New York Jets are hoping that he can pull off a miracle.
