Nick Wright pours cold water on Davante Adams' comeback hopes after teasing 2016 Packers-inspired vibe - "This is utter delusion"
FS1's Nick Wright blasted Davante Adams for claiming that the Jets can do what the 2016 Packers did with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback in Green Bay. New York stopped a rot of five straight losses and secured a win last week against a good Houston Texans team.
The Jets are 3-6 and second in their division because the Dolphins and the Patriots have an even worse record. The Bills are four games ahead of them and barring a spectacular collapse will win the AFC East.
However, many New York fans hope that the win on Halloween against Houston can be the turning point of their season and they can win the majority, if not all, of their remaining games. Davante Adams mused about that on a podcast with Kay Adams, saying Aaron Rodgers can inspire them to be perfect in the next eight games, just as the Packers began 4-6 in 2016 before winning six straight.
Nick Wright, though, was having none of that and reminded his "First Things First" viewers that the last time the Jets quarterback won eight games in a row was in 2011 when the Packers were defending Super Bowl champions. He noted,
"This is utter delusion. First of all, the last time Aaron Rodgers won eight games in a row, you [Greg Jennings] were there with him. You guys were the defending Super Bowl champs. It was 2011 when you guys went 15-1. The last time the Jets won eight in a row, I was one-year-old. It was 1986."
Nick Wright says Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams' Jets team unlike the 2016 Packers
Nick Wright also said that winning in a row, like the 2016 Packers did, is something good teams can pull out. However, the analyst does not think that the Jets are there this season.
Barring the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, Nick Wright said that no team can run the table, commenting,
"Here's the other reason that I think it's delusional. We keep talking about the Jets as if, not only they're not a bad team, not only they're not a mediocre team, but this conversation is as if they're an awesome team. Like, is there a single team in the league you expect to run the table the rest of the way? Maybe Kansas City. Take them out of it... I don't think there's one."
The first instance to check who is right will come this Sunday against the Cardinals, who sit atop the NFC West with a 5-4 record.
