“Nobody cares”: Cam Newton calls out Patriots QB Joe Milton on 95-yard throw
Cam Newton has been outspoken about every aspect of football on and off the field. While the world marveled at Joe Milton’s 95-yard throw, Newton shared his perspective on it.
The New England Patriots picked Milton as their second QB in the sixth round of this year's draft. The rookie has been astonishing with his phenomenal arm strength. During the preseason game against the Washington Commanders, Milton’s 95-yard throw was shown, while the broadcaster suggested the rookie believes he can throw a 100-yarder as well.
However, this did not fascinate Cam Newton. The former Patriots QB on his podcast, ‘4th and 1,’ showed minimal reaction after watching the clip:
“Nobody cares how far you can throw the ball if it doesn't end up in your receiver's chest or your receiver can't catch it. Cause’ throwing the ball that far tells me one thing, the velocity that he's throwing at a target, it could be counterproductive. Too much, too much.
“You feel what I'm saying? Let's remember this, Peyton Manning could not throw the ball 40 yards in 2015-16, he couldn't. So, whether you throw the ball 100 yards or 95 yards or whatever, that's not the quarterback position.” (59:02 – 59:50)
Newton also advised the rookie to learn from the greats of the past and develop his overall game and not just the throwing-further aspect.
Cam Newton congratulates CeeDee Lamb
On his podcast, the 2015 NFL MVP congratulated CeeDee Lamb for becoming the second-highest-paid non-QB in the history of the NFL. However, Cam Newton named a person who Lamb should thank.
"Justin Jefferson, that's just how it works," said Newton on his podcast [12:52].
Newton reasoned that Justin Jefferson getting the massive $140 million contract allowed Lamb to negotiate for a $136 million deal.
