Damar Hamlin posts an emotional message for Bills teammates ahead of their first game after cardiac arrest scare
Damar Hamlin is in recovery after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field last Monday. However, it appears that his only concerns are with his Buffalo Bills teammates today in a key matchup against the New England Patriots.
The star safety, who was resuscitated on the field and rushed to a hospital, shared an emotional message on social media.
Hamlin tweeted:
"GameDay.. Nothing I Want More Than To Be Running Out That Tunnel With My Brothers. God Using Me In A Different Way Today. Tell Someone You Love Them Today!"
The safety wishes he could be on the field making plays as the Bills look to secure the second seed and eliminate the Patriots from AFC playoff contention. But he knows that's not possible right now.
His story has been inspiring when it could have been an all-time tragedy. He understands this and is fine with not being a starting safety during Week 18.
Given the nature of the injury and the recovery process, it's very unlikely that Hamlin will suit up again this season. It would also be understandable if he decided to retire.
Not many players suffer legitimately life-threatening injuries, but there was a very real chance that Hamlin could have died as a result of his cardiac arrest.
Damar Hamlin timeline
Damar Hamlin made a tackle on Tee Higgins in the first quarter of last week's Monday Night Football game. He then collapsed and had to receive several minutes of CPR before being rushed to the hospital.
He was in critical condition for days before any signs of improvement. He began to wake up, being able to move his fingers and communicate with his teammates via hand signals.
He was eventually able to speak and communicate and is now being active on social media to update his followers and concerned fans.
He's still in recovery, but it definitely looks like Damar Hamlin's story will be an inspiration rather than a tragedy. He wants to be back out there with his teammates already, showcasing what a true competitor and great friend he is.
