Odell Beckham Jr. Injury Update: Latest on Dolphins WR for Fantasy Football
Last Sunday, the Miami Dolphins succumbed to a second straight loss as the Seattle Seahawks trounced them 24-3 at Lumen Field, ending their 37-game streak of scoring at least 10 points in the regular season.
The Dolphins' offense had a legitimate excuse for their dismal outing as they were not only missing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered a gruesome concussion in their 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, but they were also without Odell Beckham Jr</a>.
The veteran wide receiver was expected to feature heavily in his debut season with the Dolphins after signing a one-year, $8.25 million deal in the offseason. However, three weeks into the regular season, he's yet to make his first appearance for the franchise. But according to coach Mike McDaniel, Beckham is inching closer to a return to the field.
Odell Beckham Jr. Injury Update: What happened to Dolphins WR?
Beckham is currently nursing an unknown injury. Neither the Dolphins nor the wide receiver revealed why he missed OTAs, the team's minicamp and was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list when training camp commenced.
In August, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the veteran had undergone a minor procedure during the offseason and the Dolphins were aware of it when they signed him to a one-year deal.
The team had hoped he'd be ready to play by Week 1 but opted to place him on the PUP list to avoid risking him not returning fully healthy and reaggravating his injury.
Placing him on the PUP list ruled him out of the first four games of the season, meaning he won't play in their Monday Night Football clash against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4.
However, he's eligible to return to practice this week and play in Week 5, which is seemingly the team's plan for the wide receiver.
When will Odell Beckham Jr. return?
McDaniel provided a positive update when asked for an update on Beckham's status during his media availability on Tuesday (via NBCSports.com):
“I’ve seen some good progress, and I’m optimistic for when his window opens up and we will see how his body responds," he said. "I do know there’s been some very intentional good work and that he hasn’t had the setbacks that we’ve made sure to avoid.”
The Dolphins will seemingly get a new weapon on offense during their trip to Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Patriots in Week 5.
