Odell Beckham Jr. reveals percentage boost after receiving 2021 Rams salary in Bitcoin
Odell Beckham Jr. is not enjoying the most prolific season of his career. The Miami Dolphins wide receiver has just five receptions for 32 yards in five games played with the franchise, with whom he signed a one-year deal before the 2024 season.
Beckham Jr. turned 32 years old on Nov. 5, and his peak has been gone for a while. After suffering a serious knee injury during Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams, he did not play in the 2022 season. After signing with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, he had 565 receiving yards, far from his golden years, where he got five seasons with over 1,000 yards.
Beckham's season with the Rams was interesting. He joined the team midseason in a $750,000 contract and ended up winning a ring, although with a knee injury in addition. However, one of the caveats is that he decided to earn his salary in Bitcoin, which was worth $64,293 at the time.
Bitcoin's valuation has fluctuated over time, but in recent weeks, it has risen to $92.017, a 43,1% valuation compared to the 2021 price. This means that his 2021 salary is now worth $1,073,400. The wide receiver celebrated the uptick on Twitter:
NFL fans celebrated with Beckham, remembering some of the (prematurely) articles written at the time about the drop in Bitcoin price and how he lost money:
Odell Beckham Jr.'s career: a superstar right from the start
Odell has been around for a while. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft by the New York Giants and became an instant star right out of the gate. His first year with the team involved a season with 1,305 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, but also one of the greatest catches of all time:
Apart from an injury-laden season in 2017, he had four successful years in New York. He was later traded to the Cleveland Browns, before stints with the Los Angeles Rams and the Baltimore Ravens.
Odell had the most success of his career with the Rams as he complimented Cooper Kupp. He finished with five touchdowns and 305 receiving yards in just eight games with the team.
