“You can’t do this” – Packers HoF rips Aaron Rodgers for throwing teammates under the bus
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers suffered their third loss in a row to the Washington Commanders on Sunday. They fell 23-21, and following the loss, the reigning MVP called out some of his teammates. He didn't name any players directly, but he called for them to have fewer snaps, according to NFL.com, saying:
"Because there's too many times in the game where there's simple, simple things just are not being accomplished. Guys who are making too many mistakes shouldn't be playing, you know. Gotta start cutting some reps, and maybe guys who aren't playing, give them a chance."
Rodgers' former teammate and a Packers Hall of Famer called out the statement. Greg Jennings believes this kind of behavior from a leader is inappropriate:
"You can't do this ... You can't sit down on a show and start talking about who should and shouldn't be playing because of mental errors."
Players make mistakes all the time and that includes Rodgers. There are a lot of reasons why the Packers have limped to a 3-4 record through seven weeks and it can't simply be pinpointed on a few players making routine mistakes.
How can Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers turn it around?
By all accounts, the preseason favorite for the NFC North title is no longer the favorite. Thanks to a poor start by Green Bay and a hot start by the Minnesota Vikings, Rodgers and company find themselves in a 2.5 game hole.
Fortunately, there are still 10 games left for them to make a run. They've had a few shocking losses to teams they should not have lost to, but they're capable of turning it around. Rodgers is right about one thing, though. The entire team will need to cut down on costly miscues in order to turn their season around. But it might not be fair to throw those players under the bus.
They may also need outside help at wide receiver. A name like Jerry Jeudy from the Denver Broncos or current free agent Odell Beckham Jr. could do wonders for this offense that has struggled mightily at times. This poor play can't and probably won't continue. They have too much talent for anything else.
