Packers' Josh Jacobs throws caution for 4th of July celebrations: “It just takes one thing to go wrong”
Newly signed Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs warned the public ahead of the 4th of July celebrations. The United States is celebrating its Independence on Thursday and Jacobs wants to make sure everyone is safe.
Jacobs joined the Milwaukee Fire Department to learn about fires from grills. More than 10,000 home fires are caused by grills, and after witnessing one occur with the Fire Department, Jacobs is cautioning people to be extra aware of their surroundings and actions when grilling on July 4.
"Normally when you’re grilling, at least in my family, the person on the grill is probably throwing back a couple beers while they’re cooking," Jacobs told Fox News Digital.
"You got kids running around the grill, you got so many things. It just takes one thing to go wrong for things to go really wrong. It can be weather, wind, just having the wrong things around the grill. Just knowing the facts and all the things I was taught today definitely opened my eyes to a lot of things when it comes to it."
Jacobs saw the Milwaukee Fire Department start a controlled explosion on a charcoal grill to show what can happen if people aren't paying attention. With people going to their friends and families, Jacobs hopes everyone is paying attention so nothing bad happens.
Josh Jacobs was glad to be part of the experience and learn more from the Milwaukee Fire Department.
"The experience was definitely cool. They showed me a lot of love here. Man, I’m walking away with a lot of gifts, so it’s definitely been fun … being able to talk about the safety of it, being able to have fun and be smart at the same time," he said.
Josh Jacobs set for his first year with the Packers
Josh Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Green Bay Packers in free agency. Jacobs was among the top running backs available in free agency and was quickly signed by the Packers, leaving the Las Vegas Raiders, the only NFL team he has played for.
Jacobs was drafted 24th overall in the 2019 NFL draft by the Raiders and in five seasons with the team, he rushed for 5,545 yards and 46 touchdowns.
The 26-year-old will be the Packers starting running back in 2024.
