Packers legend Brett Favre lands major role in Donald Trump's election campaign
Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre will join Donald Trump's presidential campaign trail later this week. The Republican candidate's campaign announced that Favre will be a special guest speaker at Wednesday's stop at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Favre, who played 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, will speak to Trump's supporters at the rally. This will be the second stop for the campaign as Wisconsin is a swing state and both candidates are eyeing the 10 electoral votes from there.
The Super Bowl-winning quarterback had endorsed Donald Trump during the 2020 presidential election cycle too. The Trump campaign believes that bringing in a Green Bay Packers legend will help them gain additional support ahead of the November 5 Election Day.
Brett Favre criticized celebs trying to sway voters in potential jab at Taylor Swift
Brett Favre's endorsement and support for Donald Trump comes just one month after he suggested professional athletes and celebrities shouldn't do so.
After Grammy winner Taylor Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris' candidature, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about his view. This came about as his wife, Brittany Mahomes, suggested that she was a supporter of the former President.
Patrick Mahomes told reporters that he wouldn't get involved in the topic and that he believes he should use his platform to encourage everyone to vote.
Favre re-shared Patrick Mahomes' comments on X and then said that it was the right direction to take as an athlete. Favre added that Americans should be able to make their own decisions on who to vote for and criticized those who are 'swayed' by 'pop stars', which looked like a jab at Swift.
Insisting that the outcome of the election wouldn't be favorable if voters were influenced by their favorite celebrities, Favre said:
"Good take by Mahomes — I see a lot of celebs trying to influence their audience instead of letting the people think for themselves. If the best choice for them ain’t clear and they’re easily swayed by their fav pop artist, it’s not going to be a good thing" - Brett Favre wrote in a post on X on September 16, 2024.
Brett Favre has apparently decided not to remain a bystander himself and has publicly endorsed Trump. He has also re-shared posts from the Trump campaign on his own social media account.
